Working on my first sticky sandwich

I am just finishing up my first sticky sandwich. I have read lots of blogs and there are different ways to do it. What I am trying is the most general:
1. sticky base coat (I am using CND Stickey)
2. polish ( I am using Rimmel 60 Seconds polish in Climax)
3. sticky base coat
4. polish
5. top coat (the only one I have right now is Zoya Armor)
6. fast dryer (Orly Fast Dry)

I will report in a few days with results and pictures.

My first Zoya haul!

I had never heard of Zoya until I got really "into" nail polish and started reading nail blogs, watching tutorials, etc...

So I decided to get myself an early Christmas present and jump right in with my first order! I'm still not really sure what's going on myself but here it is to take a look and I'll get things labeled. Of course then I'll have to play around with it. I guess what I'm saying is get ready for a lot of Zoya posts coming up here.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Thanksgiving day, and are able to spend time with friends and family. For those of you apart from your family, I know it sucks, but you have many things to be thankful for as well!

I should have waited until Groundhog's Day for this next post. I was looking through my stash and noticed I had several similar colors in the mid-pink range. I figured I'd try out 4 of them and see what it showed.
I can really only see a difference in the Sally Hanson, it's a bit more luminous or frosty or something. Otherwise I'd say they'd all pretty well cover for each other.

Well, that's it for now. I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. Here is a short list of what I am thankful for:
  • My family
  • My friends
  • My Kitties
  • My Job
  • My House
  • Anyone who reads this blog
  • Robby Vee
  • The Reckless Ones
  • nail polish and make up!!!

A new glitter - Sinful Colors "Frenzy"

I don't know if this is new or not, but it's new to me because yesterday was literally the first time I'd ever seen it. Maybe it was just always out of stock, but either way, I got it!! It's got purple, silver and tealish glitters in it, and it's very pretty.
First it's interesting how differently it photographs with a flash and without:

Even though it's a little out of focus, the one on the right looks like it does in real life.

When I tested it out, I decided to do it 4 different ways:

First (index) finger was Frenzy all by it's self.

Next finger was Frenzy over Sinful Colors Fiji:

Next it's over OPI Suzi and the Lifeguard:

And finally over N.Y.C. Big Money

Well that's it. I think it lost something over Big Money because it is basically the same color as one of the glitters so you don't see them as much.

And there you have it! I love my Frenzy! Here's one more look:

I need this polish!!

Color Club - Poptastic collection - name of shade - Jackie Oh!

Scroll down to Poptastic, about halfway down the page - look at the 2nd polish from the right.

How cool would that be to have a color with your name??

I don't know if I mentioned this before but I'm out of work on medical leave right now so I am technically on a no buy right now, but I will be getting this shade ASAIC!!

My first attempt at following a nail tutorial..

So I was crusing around YouTube the other day looking for nail tutorials, and I found this one and after watching it thought I could take a stab at it. Of course my result is nothing as awesome as hers but I still like it and think it's pretty good for my first try.

Pure Ice - French Kiss

Until now my nail collection has been pretty much anything in the pink family. If it's glittery, even better. If it's not, I have several glitter top coats I can put over it.

I have been out of work after surgery so I don't have a huge budget right now. Once I do I will be getting new shades from new various collections to review. But for now I am doing what I can on a budget to get out of my comfort zone and try some new things.

The first thing I learned is that taking pictures of certain polish colors is not easy!
And here are a couple pictures on the nails...

Next I'm going to jazz it  up with some of what I have in my collection right now, including my oldest bottle of polish, which, interestingly is one that is in the best shape. I've tried to find out when this line was released and the closest thing I can find is somewhere in the mid-90s. I have no doubt this is when I bought it. It still holds up... kudos to them.
So, the first finger is the French Kiss covered with two coats of Street Wear. The second, middle finger is just an experiment I did where I put a teal cover on the tip. The third (ring) finger had a pink
tip which I decided to cover with rhinestones. Pinkie finger is just a bit bigger tip with a light
blue nail polish I have. I apologize that the teal and the light blue don't have names, they were just some samples I bought at Sally's to start experimenting with new colors. I apologize for the poor manicures, it's something I've been working on. Also I just ordered some manicure tape from Ebay so I can do better tips. It's all a learning process, but one I hope you can enjoy and maybe get something out of.

Welcome to my blog

I've been reading all kinds of other nail blogs and while I didn't think that there was really anything missing out there in the nail and beauty blogosphere, I still thought I'd add my own.

I haven't really got started yet, but in the meantime, here's a picture of some random stuff I did with my nails while I was playing around with my stash. You'll see it's not perfect, but it will give you an idea of my love of rhinestones.

And while I'm on the topic of rhinestones and nail art in general, you have to check out Ebay. I just did a search for "nail art". There are some GREAT deals to be had over there. I ordered a wheel of 1800 rhinestones in various colors for like $1.50 and free shipping. Much better than the one I got of about 150 at Sally's for about $10. They have other things like stickers, other gems and nail art brushes all at great prices so if you like that kind of stuff, definitely go take a look!
